Paid Memberships Pro is distributed under the GPLv2 license. This means, among other things, that you may use the software on this site or any other site free of charge.

An annual support license is recommended for websites running Paid Memberships Pro.

Paid Memberships Pro is 100% GPLv2 Software

You can run Paid Memberships Pro on as many sites as you want. The PMPro code is not obfuscated, so you can customize it to fit your needs or use the code in your own projects.

In fact, you can do pretty much anything you want with the PMPro code as long as you follow the GPLv2 guidelines by applying the GPLv2 license to any altered or unaltered version of PMPro that you distribute.

If you are using an altered version of PMPro in one of your projects, we do ask that you:

  1. Give your software a name other than “Paid Memberships Pro” or “PMPro” to avoid confusion.
  2. Notify us of your distributed version so we can potentially promote the distribution if it’s a good effort.

More information on why we’ve settled on this license can be found in our blog post here.

Use Open Source Software For Free

Like WordPress, Paid Memberships Pro’s core plugin and all of our Add Ons are 100% open source. Read our guide on how to use Paid Memberships Pro for free.

Annual Support License

An annual support license is recommended for websites running Paid Memberships Pro. Your annual support license includes automatic updates for premium Add Ons and access to technical support.

Choosing a Paid Memberships Pro Plan

Paid Memberships Pro offers various plans with different site limits to fit your needs.

Plans For Membership Site Owners

  • The Standard membership is priced at $347 annually, providing one PMPro license key, access to our technical support team in the Member Support Area, and all free and Standard Add Ons.
  • The Plus membership costs $597 annually and includes two PMPro license keys. It offers priority support and the addition of Plus Add Ons.

Plans For Agencies and Developers

For a more detailed comparison these plans, check out this companion guide to help you make the best decision for your membership site needs.

Our Philosophy on Licenses

  • We are flexible. We understand the things change when you’re starting and growing a membership business. Multiple development sites could be needed or another site may be built to accommodate your growing community. We want you to have the flexibility you need when it comes to your license usage.
  • Site licenses should be individual. The license key is there for premium members to benefit from automatic updates for premium plugins and access to our technical support team. Therefore, each business owner should have their own license they can use to manage their membership site and receive direct support from our team. This allows for us to most effectively cater to each site’s individual needs.
  • The right plan benefits you and your clients. Whether you are a solo developer, agency, network/hosting provider, or WordPress influencer, we have plans to support you and your clients.

Using Your License Key on a Network, Multisite, or For Subdomains

  • A subdomain is a domain. This counts as a license key use or separate active site.
  • If you are using the Multisite Membership Add On, where one site in your WordPress Network (‘the main site’) controls PMPro, this means that all subsites are connected. This setup will count as a single license key usage.
  • If you are running a WordPress Network, with separate PMPro sites across the network, each subsite is a site and will count against your license key uses.

Terminating Your Annual Support License

Do not renew your support license, choose to cancel your subscription, or receive a refund, the following rules apply:

  • For account cancellations: If there are remaining days on your annual license, the license will remain valid through your next payment date.
  • Once your support license is cancelled, your site will continue to function as-is. We do not have access to disable any functionality on your site.
  • Without an active license, 1) your site will no longer receive updates to premium Add Ons, 2) you will not be able to install new premium Add Ons, and 3) you will not be able to create new tickets in our technical support area.

Please refer to our complete Terms of Service for more information about subscriptions and account cancellations.

License Usage and Buying Extra Keys

Your PMPro license can be used on unlimited demo, staging, and testing environments (domains ending in .dev, .staging, .local, etc.). Activations on sites we detect as “Development Sites” do not impact your license limits.

Start by reviewing the sites that have an active Paid Memberships Pro license. You can review the number of active sites for your key on the Manage License page here.

Then, follow the steps here to manage your license key or purchase more key uses.
